Rapunzel Magic

We went to see movie!! Yes we went to see movie with the girls for the first time. It was the Disney movie Tangled As my DH said we are going to see the movie I got a little confused if we should take the girls to the movie or not; I said to him that may be the girls are not prepared for that experience, but till then the girls got the news! “We are going to see cartoon on a big TV!” And it wast waste of time to tell them that the plan was canceled, so we went to see movie.

Achu was sitting on my lap and Aaku was on her papa’s. Both were excited about the movie but when the lights were turned off  and the movie started the little girl on my lap murmured “want to go susu” WHAT?? I asked as if I heard it incorrect, and she said it again! “What happened?” asked DH. As I told him the matter Aaku overheard it and she also asked to go out. First I felt that I should take them out to toilet, but then I remembered their old habit; whenever they want to get away from the scene they want to go to toilet. I thought maybe this is the reason they are saying so, hence I said to both that when the movie will finish then only we can go out to the toilet. Aaku said ok and started watching the movie, she was enjoying it. “It is the cute little baby princess with the king and queen”, I kept talking to Achu to let her be comfortable about what is going on and if she can see it, if she is enjoying it… She only nodded her head in yes that she is liking the princess and started watching  the movie. She looked a little frightened but was watching keenly. She kept her silence throughout the movie while Aaku laughed , squealed loud and enjoyed every moment.

Ask them now about the movie and they will say, “Uncle ne queen ke bal tod diye” {“Uncle broke the hair of the queen“} and when we say “tode nahin cut kiye” {he didn’t broke them but cut them} they both say no “tod diye” {no he broke them} 🙂

It’s Observation time (Aaku)

Aaku’s observation was from 10:45 am to 12:00 noon. I had asked (actually I threatened him by saying I’ll not go if you won’t come ) DH to come for her observation. We reached at school at 11 o’clock and Aaku simply refused to do anything , and for 15min she was sitting on my lap seeing other children doing activities. She refused to go with the teacher to get the supplies for the activities. At last she said she will show the shapes box to us and asked me to come with her to get the cards and the box for the activity. This was the same activity she had shown me in the last observation, but her father was observing her for the first time so I helped her to get all she needed. After the activity was finished the teacher and I asked her to show us the Number Rodbut she said she want to show Long Rods not the number rods. I said that show first long rods and then number rods she denied; we had no choice but surrender to her choice. When she showed the long rods I said to get the other rods in two different colors (number rods) and said I’ll come with her to get them from the inside room. She paused for a while and then followed me to the other room to get the number rods.

Her teacher was sitting just next to us with another kid and when she said to Aaku if she will do it with her? she just ignored her and came near to her papa. We asked her to show what to do with those rods then she counted the numbers properly and even counted to get the desired rod out of the pile. i.e. I asked her if she can count and get the rod of five; she counted till five and got the rod. her teacher said that she was seeing Aaku for the first time doing that. The next activity was the sand paper tracing for numbers. It helps to recognize the numbers. Her teacher said she doesn’t want to say the numbers when asked but when I asked her she responded alright. The teacher was amused and said that all she is doing is learnt by seeing others not from the teacher. Shas not started phonics as she does not speak to the teachers at all.

Later we went to the head for the all round report and the feed backs ; as we had thought she showed concern that Aaku is not cooperating with her teacher for the next level activities. She asked to do the counting and phonic activities at home so that her learning won’t suffer and thought to give Aaku  time as much she wants to get adjusted in the environment.

It’s observation time (Achu)

So today I went with Achu in her classroom to see how is she doing in there. It was scheduled for one and half hour, but she was so quick in those activities that we were out in front of the office to meet school head in one hour. In the morning when she heard that she will not go to school with Aaku she started insisting to go with papa to his office… yes you read it correct, she wanted to go the office. When it became impossible to console her poor papa made a promise to take her to the office on Sunday. And he knows if she remembers all this he would have to take her there.

After the two were gone she started to watch cartoon. When I told her that I’ll be going to the school with her to see what she does there, she didn’t show me any interest… she was enjoying the time and space without Aaku. But as the time passed she started telling me to change clothes and to go to get Aaku from the school. We went to the school at 12 o’clock, we were the first to reach for that batch I think. She started with the activity with bunch of cards with a kind of shapes, one bunch were painted, the other was thickly outlined and the last bunch was just the outline of the same shapes. She showed me symmetric shapes with matching them. the next activity was the sand paper numbers. In this activity they learn numbers by tracing them, it helps them to write the numbers later. The next was the number rod, it is the first activity to introduce the concept of numbers to the children, and it is the activity to which Aaku refused to do. Later Achu did the language activities, sand paper tracing with alphabets and sounds to the alphabets. The last activity was the sprinter box for counting. She did all the activities with lot of interest and enjoyment.

Later the school head told me that they are happy with Achu’s performance and she is an active, happy to do anything, cooperating and obeying  child. She has a good vocabulary and is happy to use English for the talking.

I am happy with all this BUT she gave me hint about Aaku…. So I am waiting for her day… you too wait for her report card.

Second Observation Schedules

Yesterday, when I was going to the school to pick my daughters, I was thinking about how they are growing and learning. They love to color, talk, speak new words, listen to the stories and then try to say that by themselves, laugh out loud at each other… Yes they fight as well like all the other children of their age and sometimes I get tired of their continuous complains about each other.

I was thinking of how they would be doing at school.. as before the holidays I had a little talk to the principal about Aaku’s behavior in the class and she assured me that she will improve with the time. When I got the observation schedule from the school later I thought, oh! this is what I wanted. So now I can see her in the class doing the activities.

Achu’s observation is on next Tuesday and Aaku’s is on Friday. So wait for the details about them till then.

Have a warm Sankranti.

Bhatwani

As I want to cook 10 Garhwali (they are from the Garhwal in Uttaranchal) dishes, I thought to start with the simplest and so cooked Bhatwani today. Although almost all of the Garhwali dishes; that I know; are simple to cook, I felt to make Bhatwani as my DH loves it. All you need for this recipe is black soybean.

Here is the recipe for you all:

Serves: 4

Ingredients:

1 cup soaked black soybean. (soak about 3/4 cup soy overnight)

2 tbsp rice flour. (traditionally they soak about 2 spoons rice separately )

1 green chili (can use more according to the taste)

3-4 cloves garlic

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp coriander powder

1 tbsp oil

1 tsp mustard seeds

salt to taste

Method:

Grind soaked soy, chili and garlic in to a paste. Add all the other ingredients to the paste with about 1 liter water.

Heat oil in a Kadhai or pan, add mustard seeds. When the seeds crackle add the dal mix to the oil. Let it come to a boil and after that cook for about 10 minutes on medium heat. Adjust seasoning and thickness of gravy.

Serve hot with Roti or Chawal.
